A bomb explosion has occured 1/05/2014 at about 8:20pm local time at the Nyanya overhead bridge, killing and wounding passers-by and pedestrians on the bridge which is about a kilometre from a military check point. The attack believed to have been planned to take place at a time when human and vehicular traffic has built up on the Nyanya-Keffi-Abuja road. The affected bridge serves as a link to Mararaba-Masaka-Keffi route; New Karu-Jikwoyi road and Nyanya-Gwandara area. The area has already been cordoned off by the security agents while some of the dead and the wounded were moved to the Asokoro General Hospital.
The explosion has however created serious panic across the capital city. Many believe that the second attack within two weeks may be a confirmation of the boast by the Boko Haram, Imam Abubakar Shekau that the sect was already in Abuja. ” We are in your city. We are the ones that carried out the attack in Abuja”, Shekau had said
in a 28-minute video clip in a veiled threat to President Goodluck Jonathan.
