When Our Girls are back!

The world rallied round Nigeria when it was learnt that a good number of school giwe rls were kidnapped in a school in the north east of Nigeria.

The Islamist militant sect Bokoharam claimed responsibility for the kidnap and threatened to sell the girls out in forced marriages.

The outcry generated from their activities brought about the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag on Twitter and the whole world joined in, forcing the authorities to seek a quick and effective way to bring the girls back home.

Nigerian Military boasts of a good ground force which has been involved in peace keeping activities around the world but massive corruption at all levels and lack technology investment and advancement has seen the military under equipped and not motivated. No hi-tech gadgets, intelligence gathering and communication equipment which has led to the military being over powered by the sect on occasions. There is little investment in intelligence gathering and the long stretch of border in the northeast remains porous and open for illegal activities.

Following the request and subsequent approval of the request of the USA to assist in bringing home the abducted girls, a campaign was launched which we pray to be successful.

The questions now is, when the girls are back, what next?
Do we go back to status quo?
Do we go idling about till something grave happens?

Do we have any corp that researches and develops  security equipment so as to adapt such equipment to our terrain?

Do we have manufacturing companies?

Our institutions are just for us to get the 'paper' then sit behind the desk.

It is time for us to wake up and tackle our problems from the root cause. Luckily we have more advanced countries which we can ask for assistance in the various aspects we are slacking.

Bombings kill our men and women, our soldiers are killed, our children are orphaned, widows and widowers are made, tears flow freely, there is blood on the street.
We can't keep creating hashtags to solve our security problems.

Intelligence should be invested heavily on.
The huge allocation to security should be scrutinized and utilized wisely. Blueprint  /working plan should be established with contribution from experienced foreign analysts to ensure that as we will be successful to #BringBackOurGirls, we endeavour to improve our border security, homeland security and #KeepOurGirlsSafe
